In one word, how will you describe Nicolas van Graan?

“Creative”

When did you first decide to become a model?

“Well, I was approached by Darren Wilson,  the designer of  VNTGE menswear to be a model in their first look book shoot. I’ve never modeled before and thought it would be a cool experience and decided yes, why not. After the look book was realized I received a lot of positive feedback from friends and family, as well as on Instagram and from there I decided to look into the modelling industry and applied and got signed by 20 Model Management in mid july 2015″.

What are your goals as a model and how do you see yourself progressing?

“I hope to model in the UK as well as New York becoming one of the most successful “shorter models” in the industry”.

As a part-time model what other passions do you pursue?

“I am currently studying graphic design. I am very passionate about design in general as well as being involved in Urban culture and contributing to the way that it is evolving as best as I can”.

FIVE things you can’t live without?

“My cellphone, internet, my girlfriend, my family/friends and shoes”.

As a model what has been the highlight of your career thus far, also which brands have been your favourite to work with and which brands do you wish to work with in the future ?

“Walking at SA Menswear week (SAMW) was a really cool experience. My favourite brands to work with thus far were VNTGE menswear, Simon and Mary as well as BLANC. I really hope to work with brands such as Nike and Adidas. I’ve always wanted to see myself in Woolworths aswell as Top Man in Europe. These may not seem like big dreams for now but I take everything as it comes I guess”.

Who do you see as a Role model in the Model/Fashion industry?

“I don’t really look up to any models because this wasn’t something I had thought about and followed for years. I look up to people such as A$AP Rocky, Kanye West and Ian Connors“.

Which other countries do you hope to work in? and where do you think your look would grow the most?

“I really want to model in the UK and New York. I feel like my look fits the UK’s current market”.

From your experience thus far what knowledge have you gained and in light of that, what advice can you give to aspiring models or aspiring creatives?

“So far I’ve learned that one really has to have a thick skin in this industry. It’s hard to stay grounded and it’s easy to get influenced within the industry, so stay humble and don’t forget who you are. Simply just stay humble”.
